Trader Joe’s just recalled the pre-made salads you bring to work for this scary reason
Trader Joe’s is usually a go-to for tasty, pre-made meals. But on Saturday, November 18th, the company announced that it’s recalling some of its packaged food due to the fact that some salads may be contaminated with glass or plastic shards.
The recall warning applies to White Meat Chicken and Curried Chicken deli salads sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Turkey Cranberry Apple salads sold in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington are also included in the warning.
Salads with expiration dates between November 10th and November 21st are potentially contaminated. When deciding whether or not to throw out your salads, look for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s “inspected” code P-40299. According to the Trader Joe’s website, products with different “inspected” codes were created at a separate location and are safe to eat.
The Trader Joe’s website warns consumers not to eat possibly contaminated salads. If you have any salads that might be affected, you should throw them away or return them to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

The grocery store chain wrote on its website that “all potentially affected product has been removed from store shelves and destroyed.”
It’s always scary to hear about potential food contamination. But in this case, as long as you follow the guidelines on the Trader Joe’s website, there’s not much cause for alarm. We will continue to buy Trader Joe’s best products — especially that Speculoos cookie butter! — but this is a good reminder to stay informed as consumers.
