If you shop at Trader Joe’s, Costco, or Walmart, you might want to read this
A crazy amount of frozen foods are being recalled after a listeria discovery at a major production facility. CRF Frozen Foods prompted the recall on 358 products that are sold under 42 different brand names. That’s every single one of their frozen organic and traditional fruits and vegetables products.
If you shop at Trader Joe’s — which seems to be the biggest supplier of CRF Frozen Foods — Costco or Walmart, this could affect you and your grocery list. A few of the major brands affected are Bybee’s, Columbia River Organics, Northwest Growers Select, Parade, and Organics by Nature. But the list is extremely long, so to find out exactly which products are being recalled, you should review the entire list from the FDA here.
If infected, Listeria can be a huge problem. “The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” according to the FDA. “Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeriainfection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
So yeah, let’s avoid that if at all possible.
The CDC has confirmed that seven people from three different states have been infected and consequently hospitalized. Two of those people later died, but reportedly due to unrelated reasons.
Products that may contain the bacteria have been purchases in all 50 states, as well as British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
The company says the the manufacturing process may have become tainted in 2014, which means that the recall affects products with sell-by dates between April 26, 2016 and April 26, 2018.
