Tracy Morgan is set to host ‘Saturday Night Live’ this fall

The incredible and incomparable Tracy Morgan is officially returning to television in the best possible way.

On Monday, NBC announced that the Emmy-nominated actor and comedian will host an upcoming episode of the 41st season of Saturday Night Live — his second time hosting since his seven-year tenure on the show from 1996 to 2003. The episode, which airs October 17, will be Morgan’s first major public performance since he was in a tragic auto accident last year after a Walmart truck collided with his limo on the New Jersey Turnpike. The accident left Morgan critically injured, and killed his close friend (and fellow comic) James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. Morgan hasn’t performed since.

“I’ll never stop loving [comedy],” Morgan said in a Today Show interview last June. “I can’t wait to get back to her, but right now my goal is just to heal and get better, ’cause I’m not 100% yet. I’m not. When I’m there, you’ll know it. I’ll get back to making you laugh, I promise you.”

His return to SNL marks his triumphant return to comedy, and it’s incredibly heartening to know that Morgan will get to make us laugh again on his own terms.

As if that weren’t already exciting enough, NBC also announced today that Miley Cyrus will return as third-time host for SNL‘s season premiere on October 3, and Amy Schumer will make her hosting debut the following week on October 10. We can’t wait to tune in.
