Tracee Ellis Ross was just awarded an honorary doctorate from her alma mater

Last weekend, Tracee Ellis Ross — model, TV host, comedian, and superstar actress best known for Girlfriends and Black-ish — was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from her undergrad alma mater, Brown University.

“Well, I’m officially Dr. Ross,” she wrote on Instagram, along with some adorable photos from the day. “This was HUGE to be honored this way by my Alma Mater @BrownU. I know this is not a real doctorate but I am humbled by this moment!”

Ross graduated from the Ivy League university in 1994 with a degree in theatre — and, as BET points out, actually attended her 20-year reunion last year. Her honorary degree was awarded by university President Christina H. Paxson at the school’s 247th Commencement ceremony yesterday, and it was definitely a high honor. According to Brown’s website, the honorary doctorate degrees were only given to “six candidates who have achieved great distinction in their fields.” (The other honorees were Robert A. Corrigan, Louise Lamphere, David E. McKinney, Susan Solomon, and Kathryn D. Sullivan.) Ross was more than deserving, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
