DIY kitchen towels that speak the truth
Accidents happen. And when you’re—ahem—a certain craft-enthusiast who is especially prone to spills, drops and other household misadventures, a good collection of kitchen towels becomes necessary.
This week’s DIY celebrates the mess-maker in all of us: a tea towel embroidered with the word “Oops!” You can use any type of towel you want—terry or cotton, patterned or solid—and get as fancy with the lettering as you wish. However you choose to craft it, hopefully this little towel reminds you to laugh off any mishaps!
Materials:
- Tea towel
- Embroidery floss in a complementary color to the towel
- Embroidery needle
- Dressmaker’s pencil or colored pencil
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Craft away:
- Use the pencil to sketch “Oops!” onto the towel. Make the “O” and the exclamation point 3-inches tall, and the other letters 1 1/2-inches tall.
- Cut a few feet of the embroidery floss and thread the needle. Knot the end of the floss, but leave the tail of the floss (the end through the needle) unknotted.
- Begin stitching over your sketched lines. Keep your stitches close together to give the look of a solid line. Be sure to knot your floss as it runs out to hold your work in place.
- Once you’ve reached the ends of the letters, you’re finished! Use your adorable new towel to clean up minor messes, or as a cute conversation piece during a get-together.
