This tortoise has a perfect, tiny, Lego wheelchair
A tiny tortoise’s life just got infinitely better.
Blade, the tiny tortoise, lost most of the use of his legs due to a growth disorder, making it difficult for him to get around. Naturally, his owner Iris Peste was concerned, and took him to the vet to see if anything could be done to help the little guy become mobile again. Lucky for Blade—and for us—there was.
Dr. Carsten Plischke brilliantly decided to make Blade a Lego wheelchair. The doctor raided his son’s Lego collection and fitted two sets of wheels to the bottom of Blade’s shell, making it possible for him to use his legs to propel himself forward. Dr. Plischke explained, “For people there are walkers, rollators or prostheses, but for animals there are no companies that produce something like that.” A little creative thinking was in order, and the results are both wonderful and adorable.
The good news (besides all the good news we just talked about) is that Blade’s condition is supposed to get better over time. But for now, the Lego wheelchair will continue to help him go everywhere he wants to go.
