Cue the applause: Plus-size label Torrid will show at NYFW this September
Plus-size brand, Torrid, will show at New York Fashion Week this coming September, and we’re here for it. The national retailer offers trendy clothes and accessories for women’s sizes 10-30, and they’re taking their wares from the mall to the catwalk for the spring/summer 2018 season. This is exciting news for sure! In case you missed it, the average American woman is a size 16, and plus-size fashion is one of the fastest growing markets. With body positivity and “fatshion” making waves over Instagram and beyond, it was only a matter of time before Fashion Week upped the inclusivity factor.
Oh, and P.S., if you’re a bodacious plus-size babe, you could have a chance to walk in the fashion show.
The third annual Torrid Model Search is on now.
You can enter the contest through August 13th at Torrid.com/modelsearch. The winner will be crowned “Face of Torrid 2018” and receive a modeling contract, wardrobe, and other exciting perks.
The show on September 12th is doing double duty as the semi-final for the top 10 hopefuls. Finalists will ~werque~ the runway before going on to the third and last round of the competition. Judges of the contest include Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton, celebrity makeup artist Pricilla Ono, and supermodel Candice Huffine, who stars in Torrid’s fall denim campaign.

The runway event is a preview of Torrid’s spring 2018 collection and promises to be a little bit rocker and a little bit boho. NYX Cosmetics is the official makeup sponsor.
In a press release, Torrid CEO Kay Hong said,
As a brand that is committed to helping all customers find her personal style, we at Torrid feel it is important to showcase the diversity of plus offerings on the most influential stage in fashion. Ultimately our objective is to show great fashion combined with body positivity and inclusivity.
We are here for it.

*Editor’s Note: The first ever plus-size fashion brand to show at New York Fashion Week was Cabiria, as a part of the Fashion Law Institute show in 2013. Torrid will be the first plus-size fashion brand to show at the newly-named NYFW: The Shows, which was previously called Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
