The top 5 happiest cities in America have been revealed — do you live in one?
People living in this country may be more stressed than ever before (thanks, 2016 election) but folks in some cities are doing better than others. A new survey has revealed the top five happiest cities in America, and you may want to consider moving.
According to the report, from personal-finance website WalletHub, people living in Fremont, California are the happiest in the nation. In case you’re unfamiliar with this small city of about 226,000 people, Fremont is located in Northern California — near San Jose and Palo Alto — and boasts an average household income of $114,000. And the weather? Pretty mild, with temperatures ranging from about 50 degrees to 70 degrees throughout the year.
Not too shabby.
Rounding out the top five are… drum roll…
San Jose, California
Irvine, California
San Francisco
And Sioux Falls, South Dakota (because California can’t always have everything).

The survey also found that Los Angeles has the nation’s lowest depression rate (must be all that cold-pressed juice and hot yoga) at just shy of 10%. That’s compared to the highest rate of depression in the country, in Portland, Oregon, which is about 25%.
Fremont, America’s happiest city, boasts the lowest separation and divorce rate in the country — 17.72% — versus the nation’s highest, in Detroit, which sits at about 47%.
According to Mariah Evans, an associate professor of sociology at the University of Nevada-Reno, climate plays a huge role in a person’s overall happiness, as does marital status, with married people happier overall than divorced, separated, and never-married people. So Fremont’s place at the top of this list makes total sense!
So pack your bags, friends, we’re all moving to Cali.
