Tonight’s Tony Awards will be dedicated to the victims of the tragic events in Orlando
With the unbelievably tragic news out of Orlando this morning, people everywhere are unsure how to handle the news. Hundreds of kind souls in Florida have been lining up to show their support by donating blood while hundreds of thousands more are taking to social media to band together. Now, it has been announced that tonight’s Tony Awards will be dedicated to those who were affected by this sad event according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tony Awards Productions issued a statement saying, “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicate tonight’s ceremony to them.” false
Many big stars who will be honored at tonight’s ceremony, including Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator and star of Hamilton which is expected to take home a number of awards tonight) have already voiced their support for Orlando and the community affected. false
And he’s not the only performer who’s made it clear that the victims of this event will be on the forefront of everyone’s mind. false
It is also being reported that the cast of Hamilton will not use any muskets on stage during their performance at the award ceremony, out of sensitivity to the victims and their families. false
There’s no easy way to deal with the cumulative sadness as a result of what happened in Orlando last night. By dedicating tonight’s ceremony (which will be watched by millions) to the victims, hopefully the Tony Awards will help bring about more open dialogue and support.
