We have our first look at Tom Hiddleston’s new AMC miniseries, ‘The Night Manager’
Tom Hiddleston fans (a.k.a. EVERYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD), rejoice! We finally have a new look at Tom’s new miniseries, and we could not be more excited.
Today, Entertainment Weekly released photos of the series, which will be airing on AMC and BBC in 2016. An adaptation of John le Carré’s The Night Manager (1993), the series revolves around Tom’s character, MI-6 field agent Jonathan Pine. And it’s sure to do the book justice — after all, it’s being produced by the author’s son, Simon Cornwell.
The reason the famous story was never adapted to the big screen during all these years was due to time constraints, Cornwell told Entertainment Weekly. “This is a fabulous book,” he said. “It’s got a vast scope to it. It just doesn’t fit into two hours.”
That’s exactly why it was made into a mini-series, and with Tom and co-star Hugh Laurie (who plays Richard Roper, the weapons dealer Pine is trying to bring down) lending their talents, it’s sure to be unbelievable. Although the two are meant to be adversaries, they start to develop an interesting relationship, according to executive producer Stephen Garrett. “The best way I can describe the story is the thriller equivalent of a bromance,” Garrett told EW.
And Tom and Hugh are certainly committed to the roles. “[Laurie] can’t address me by my real name,” Hiddleston says. “I sign off emails to him as ‘Pine,’ and he addresses me as ‘Pine.’ I don’t know why, but it makes us laugh.”
Oh, our hearts. Even better? Part of the script has been gender-flipped, with one of the major roles being changed from Leonard Burr to Angela Burr, played by Olivia Coleman. As if that’s not awesome enough, when she announced shortly after being cast that she was pregnant, the script-writers adapted Angela Burr to be pregnant as well so that they wouldn’t hide her baby bump.
The Night Manager will air on AMC in the US and BBC in the UK in April. And we can’t wait.
