Tom Hardy looks like a completely different person in his Al Capone makeup, and this internet crush just got weird
Tom Hardy is currently filming Fonzo, in which he plays legendary Chicago gangster Al Capone, and the latest photo of him in character is blowing our minds. This isn’t the first photo of Hardy as Capone, but it’s the first one that has us refusing to believe we’re looking at the same internet boyfriend who goes viral any time he holds a dog. Shoutout to the makeup crew on Fonzo, because Hardy is completely unrecognizable here.
Hardy’s face looks the way it does here because Fonzo chronicles the last years in Capone’s life. The film is directed by Fantastic Four’s Josh Trank, and per Variety, it follows Capone’s life beginning at age 47 when he left prison until he lost his battle with dementia. It’s a look at Scarface in his twilight years when he was no longer the notorious mob boss we think of when we hear his name.
Before Hardy began documenting his role on Instagram, he teased us that this part would require quite the “transformation.”
"It’s not the classic Al Capone that you necessarily envision with the silhouette," he told The Daily Beast in 2017. "I don’t want to give too much away about it, but there’s definitely a transformation with that role."
We give you that transformation:

Who. Is. This. Man?
Hardy captioned the pic, “Mega awkward character misstep,” and we genuinely have no idea what that means.
He has shared a few other Scarface pics, including close-ups of his prosthetics:

We’ve already forgotten what Hardy actually looks like. Oh wait, phew, he’s back.

Based on this FX makeup alone, let’s just hand Hardy the Oscar already.
