This high school threw a Tom Hanks-themed homecoming — with Tom Hanks’ help

A super creative high school in Kerman, California, chose a rather unusual theme for homecoming this year. Tom Hanks. Yes, you guys. He’s not just an awesome actor and human being anymore. He’s also a homecoming theme, ABC30 reports.

Back in August, Kerman High School announced plans to incorporate their love for Tom Hanks and some of his greatest films in their homecoming festivities. This high school knows how to throw a homecoming, by the way. They had a parade with floats and everything. But they didn’t stop there. Because what would a Tom Hanks-themed homecoming be without Tom Hanks himself? That’s right. They invited Tom Hanks to their big day, and since he’s a famous Oscar-winning actor who’s probably really busy being Tom Hanks and all, they launched a social media campaign to show him just how much they wanted him to attend.

Twitter, Facebook and IG were flooded with posts using the hashtag #TomHanks2KermanHC.

Posters and banners went up all over town. We’re talking EVERYWHERE.

As we mentioned before, Tom Hanks genuinely seems like a wonderful person. So of course he responded. In late August, he tweeted what was basically the equivalent of “I see you, Kerman High. I see you.”

Kerman’s homecoming game was last night. Unfortunately, Hanks is on location filming his new movie, The Circle, so he couldn’t be at homecoming in person. But he definitely made good on his promise to help Kerman celebrate. He shot a special video for all the students, which was played on a big screen at their football field.

In the video, Hanks says, “I think because we’re talking about my films at this homecoming weekend, I might show you how some of my films have been made.” He basically makes a mini-movie about what it’s like to make a movie.

The seven-minute video shows everything that goes on backstage and even includes a few special guest stars, like Emma Watson (be still our hearts!) and a dog that bears more than a passing resemblance to Hooch from Hanks’ film Turner & Hooch. We all remember Hooch, right? Don’t eat the car! Not the car! Oh, what am I yelling at you for? You’re a dog! At the end of the video, he signs the typewriter he uses on set (he re-types all his dialogue to help him memorize his lines) and promises to send it to Kerman High. (Seriously, could he be any more awesome?)

Then he closes by saying, “Thanks for everything. Thanks for the honor of all those floats. Thanks for paying attention to some of the work I’ve done over the years. Hope you liked it. Hope you have a great homecoming weekend.” No worries, Tom. Something tells us they most definitely did!
