Tom Cruise just slayed Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync Battle

While we love Lip Sync Battle with LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen, let’s not forget where the magic all started: on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Last night, Fallon and the gang were up to their old tricks, when Tom Cruise stopped by for a visit to talk about his upcoming release, Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation. And when you’ve got one of the biggest movie starts on the planet in the house, you’ve gotta do some lip synching, right?

Cruise is up first, to entertain us with the “song of the summer,” as he refers to it. It’s the Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” and yeah, he does a pretty good job with hitting the emotions in the song. But it’s hard to stack it up next to Fallon’s first go, which is Rolling Stone’s “Undercover of the Night” with lots of arm flailing and hip-action.

Don’t worry. Cruise comes back and totally steals the entire battle right out from underneath Fallon. No, it’s not “Old Time Rock and Roll,” but it’s just as good. It’s Meatloaf’s “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” which he nails. He’s got both the male and female parts down, or as Fallon calls it, “a one man duet.” It’s a good thing he took off his suit coat and handed it to Fallon, because there’s no way it would have survived through the whole song.

Seeing as how it’s going to be difficult to top that, so Fallon enlists Cruise’s help for his last number, “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling,” by the Righteous Brothers. The two head out into the seats and pick out a very surprised audience member to sing to. It’s hard to tell if she’s laughing or crying. But we’re not sure if we’re laughing, or crying, or both, through this whole thing, either.
