Today we are blessed, because Squirrel Girl is coming to TV

Today is a great day to be alive because we just learned that fan-favorite comic book character, Squirrel Girl, is getting a TV show. The new show from Freeform is called New Warriors and stars Squirrel Girl herself. It will be the first live-action Marvel comedy TV show, and Kevin Biegel from Cougar Town and Scrubs will likely be the showrunner. So get excited for another comic book-based TV show!

Marvel has had shows on ABC (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter) and of course, the Marvel/Netflix universe (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist) but now they’re headed back to Freeform (Cloak and Dagger is in the works with them too!) with their first live-action comedy TV show. And it has been confirmed that Squirrel Girl will lead the show. But with a name like New Warriors, can we assume this will be another superhero team-up group a la The Avengers and The Defenders?! It totally sounds like it.

The 10-episode series about “six young people with powers living and working together” won’t premiere until 2018 and with an experienced sitcom creative like Kevin Biegel behind it, the show is sure to be hilarious. Of course, we are far from hearing casting news but actresses are already expressing interest in being Squirrel Girl.

Like Mae Whitman (Parenthood) who clearly is vying for the part:

And Shannon Purser (Stranger Things) who expressed interest in playing Squirrel Girl way back in 2016. false false

Even Anna Kendrick has expressed interest in playing Squirrel Girl. How can we possibly choose?!? Luckily, we don’t have to and with so many amazing options, we’re bound to end up with someone awesome. The show won’t be on until sometime in 2018 but we’re confident that our excitement can carry us through until then.
