Today in sad: Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer to separate after 9 years

Sadly another Hollywood couple has called it quits.

Tobey Maguire and his wife Jennifer Meyer are separating after nine years of marriage, People exclusively reported on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the long-term couple has fallen victim to the Hollywood marriage curse and has decided to end their marriage after tying the knot back in 2007.

"After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple," Maguire and Meyer told People in a joint statement.

The Spider-Man actor and his wife met in 2003, and have a history of keeping their relationship private and away from the press. Meyer, who is a jewelry designer, is also the daughter of vice chairman of NBC Universal Ron Meyer.

Meyer met Maguire while he was shooting Seabiscuit at Universal Pictures, which her dad was the president of at the time, nearly 10 years ago.

The couple wed in 2007 in a Hawaii ceremony and have two children together, daughter Ruby, 9, and son Otis, 7. The duo told People in their statement about their plan to remain friends through the split and put their children first no matter what.

"As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship," the couple explained to the publication.
