The Yale College Black Men’s Union is sending incredibly moving messages to their unborn sons
#ICantBreath #BlackLivesMatter. Americans are widely sharing their voices, their fears, their outrage over the lack of indictment for two white police officers who killed unarmed black men. Now, members of the Yale College Black Men’s Union have added a new rallying cry to the mix: “To My Unborn Son.”
Members of the campus group showed their support for Michael Brown’s family through a letter to the family followed by messages to the students’ unborn sons. The end result is both moving and entirely heartbreaking.
“To the parents of Michael Brown, Jr.,” they write. “. . . When we think about what it means to be black men in America, we realize that we are all Michael, we are all sons, and although our stories may differ, we know the fate of your son could also be the fate of any of us . . . we hope that you can find some solace in our voices as we share with you messages to our unborn sons.”
The members then wrote messages to the children they have yet to have, expressing hope, fear, love, and what it means to grow up as a black man in America. See their incredibly moving messages below:
