This tiny detail in the “Game of Thrones” trailer could be a huge clue to one character’s fate

Last week, the world was gifted with the trailer for the penultimate season of Game of Thrones. It was the show’s narrative in miniature, with Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and Jon Snow vying for the Iron Throne. And it also contained a very small detail that could mean some very big things.

The internet has, of course, scoured the minute and a half long trailer for every possible sign. And they found some possible foreshadowing. At one point, Cersei and her brother/lover Jaime Lannister are standing on a huge map of Westeros. And exactly where they are standing has people worried about Cersei’s impending death.

In the scene, Cersei stands on a part of Westeros called The Neck, which is a bottleneck between the north and the south. Meanwhile, Jaime stands on a part called The Fingers, which is where Lord Baelish, a.k.a Littlefinger, is from.

So why is this important?

As you know if you’re up-to-date on your GoT, Cersei heard a prophecy when she was young. The prophecy accurately predicted her three children would die before her. It also contained this gem: “When your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”

As Vanity Fair notes, the word “valonqar” is high Valyrian for “little brother.” So it implies that Cersei’s little brother will kill her. As we know, this moniker applies to two characters: Tyrion and Jaime. Now Tyrion seems like most likely choice, as he has been mistreated by Cersei his whole life. Plus, he’s clearly sided with Daenerys, who wants Cersei’s spot on on the Iron Throne.

But then why show Jaime standing on The Fingers? Could it be that he will wrap his fingers around Cersei’s neck?

Of course, Jaime is still seemingly in love with Cersei, but we could definitely see that changing. (Any other Jaime/Brienne of Tarth shippers out there?) After all, Jaime does have experience slaying the royalty of Westeros.

We could also be reading way too much into this. But isn’t that half the fun of Game of Thrones? We cannot wait until the series premiere on July 16.
