Tinder will now give us a little more info about potential matches

One of the things that can make Tinder so aggravating is weeding through all the people who are simply not the right match for you. Or that’s what makes it so addictive, if you’re a compulsive swiper who plays it less like a dating game and more like a video game.

For the more love-minded among us, however, there is some good news. Tinder have released a new update that allows users to add their job and education information to their profile. Better yet, when photos display on the app now you may see some “smart text” below it that show something you have in common based on the information you input about yourself. Perhaps you shared the same alma matter or are in the same industry — whether that makes you want to swipe left or right on someone, it certainly makes things more efficient!

Why did the app’s developers pick these particular characteristics to start sharing? People were already putting that info into their profiles in text, so the company decided to make it part of the data set in a more visible way.

“I think the thing that has shocked me [in developing Tinder] is that when it comes to establishing an initial impression, there’s a very finite set of things we look at to decide whether we want to have a conversation with someone. ‘How you look — and what that says about your personality. Common connections. Career. Education.’ 90% of it comes down to that, and sociologists will tell you the rest is sort of diminishing value. People know that instinctively but don’t like to admit it,” Tinder CEO Sean Rad said to Business Insider.

That said, this isn’t the end of the data you’ll see bubbling up on Tinder. Rad says that Tinder has a lot of behind-the-scenes data that they’ll be “surfacing” in the coming months.

Finally, there’s the promise of more depth to Tinder than tiger pic or no tiger pic.
