Tina Knowles’ Halloween costume paid homage to a black movie icon, and the photos are fierce AF

Halloween is basically our favorite holiday—if only because we get to see our favorite celebs bring their costume A-games. And boy, did they go all out this year. One of the most iconic costumes came courtesy of Destiny’s Child costumer designer and noted Instagram legend Tina Knowles Lawson (yes, Beyoncé’s mom), who channeled her inner Foxy Brown. For those who don’t know, Foxy Brown was a 1974 blaxploitation film with actress Pam Grier playing the titular (badass) role.
Seriously though, if looks could kill!
The costume also makes her the second Knowles to take on Foxy Brown. As many will recall, Beyoncé made her film debut in Austin Powers in Goldmember as the characterFoxy Cleopatra—which was a direct homage to blaxploitation heroines Foxy Brown and Cleopatra Jones. Foxy Cleopatra’s most iconic line—”I’m Foxy Cleopatra, and I’m a whole lot of woman!” was even taken directly from the Foxy Brown film.
Lawson showed off the costume’s intricate detailing—including her Foxy Brown necklace—in one of her iconic joke posts.
Lawson partied alongside husband Richard Lawson (dressed up as Priest from 1972 film Super Fly), as well as Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who went as Olympic gold medalists Florence Griffith Joyner (aka Flo-Jo) and Tommie Smith. In her many glorious Instagram posts from the evening, she also posed with Kelly Rowland and husband Tim Weatherspoon, who arrived as members of the Black Panther Party. Solange, Insecure‘s Yvonne Orji, and Jennifer Hudson were on hand to celebrate, too.
Our Halloween parties may not have been blessed with Jay-Z and Beyoncé, but we’ll always have Tina Knowles Lawson’s Instagram feed to make us feel like we were there.
