Tina Fey’s new series is coming to Netflix. High-fiving a million angels!
I wept actual tears when 30 Rock ended, because that’s how much Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon meant to me. So naturally, I was stoked when news broke that Fey was bringing another character to the small screen, and one played by none other than Ellie Kemper herself (huge girl crush alert). The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a show about a girl who escapes a “doomsday cult” and moves to New York City to start anew. With only that logline, I’m already on board. Here’s another thing to get you pumped up for this new series: it just landed a two season agreement with Netflix.
This is HUGE news! The show was originally slated to head to NBC’s mid-season roster and while that was pretty cool, network television can sometimes break our hearts. Netflix, so far, has a perfectly clean track record of NEVER breaking our heart, at least not yet. This means that The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will join the likes of Arrested Development, Orange is the New Black, Bojack Horseman and House of Cards, too, on what is quickly turning into our favorite television channel even though it’s not even on TV. Plus, Netflix seems to be a pretty safe space for zany comedy, and we all know that Fey can do that perfectly.
And, let’s not forget the fact that it’s already got a two season order from Netflix. That means we’re guaranteed two seasons of Fey’s next endeavor. Let’s take a moment and really celebrate this.
Its first 13-episode season lands on Netflix in March. I’m going to start mentally preparing to binge it all in one sitting.
