Tina Fey will have a recurring role on Season 2 of “Great News,” and we’re high-fiving a million angels
Seeing Tina Fey on our television screens is always a blessed event. But ever since 30 Rock ended, we’ve only seen her pop up in quick guest appearances or return to SNL from time to time. If you need your Fey fix, we have some Great News. (Pardon the pun.)
Tina Fey will have a recurring role on Great News, and we have details about her character!
The NBC show, created and written by Tracey Wigfield, is entering its second season this September. And we cannot WAIT to see Fey join the fun this time around.
Of course, Fey is no stranger to the Great News set. In fact, the spirit of 30 Rock basically lives on in this new NBC show. As you may know, Fey already serves as an executive producer on the show. Alongside creator, showrunner, and executive producer Tracey Wigfield (who also plays a quirky weather reporter on the show), the cast and crew is clearly comedy gold.
Though we absolutely love what Fey can do behind the scenes, you really can’t beat seeing her face onscreen.
Fey will appear in seven episodes of Great News this upcoming season. She’ll play Diana St. Tropez, the new boss at MMN — the fictional news network on the show. In an interview at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, Wigfield described how Fey’s character will fit in with the rest of the show — especially with Katie’s mom Carol, MMN’s adult intern, played by comedy genius Andrea Martin.
"She's sort of the Sheryl Sandberg on steroids," Wigfield says. "She's hopefully a really good foil to Andrea's character. This character kind of represents to her everything that she isn't."
Wigfield also says that the addition of Fey and her character also helps set the tone for Season 2.
"Her presence in the show, I hope, really sets up all of our characters on really funny stories for the rest of the season."
We’ve certainly seen Fey play a variety of roles in her life. Of course she was absolutely unforgettable as Liz Lemon on 30 Rock but since then, she has wowed us in many ways. On Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the other show she created, Fey has played two wildly different characters. She was hilarious both as Marcia (an obvious Marcia Clark type of character) and Dr. Andrea Bayden, Kimmy’s wildly troubled psychiatrist.
We already know Fey can do whatever she sets her mind on. We cannot wait to see the second season of Great News, and now it’s even more exciting! Like we said, we’re high-fiving a million angels.
September 28th, we’re ready for you!
