This time-lapse video of pills dissolving in water is strangely mesmerizing

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to pills after you ingest them, this mesmerizing time-lapse video of a bunch of pills dissolving in water might be the closest you’ll come to witnessing the process up close and in person. Shot by Ben Ouaniche and shared on Macroroom’s YouTube channel, the clip opens with a single Advil liqui-gel pill being immersed in water.

Shortly after, the layer with the white lettering peels away. What follows is a dramatic meltdown of the green outer layer and the subsequent release of the actual medication, which fans out into the water in thick white streams.

This is just another example of why time-lapse videos are so intriguing. They draw us in by making us pay attention to details that our brains won’t allow us to capture in real time. In fact, Quaniche said some of the shots required 10 hours of non-stop recording. Thanks to his dedication, we’re left with some surprisingly artistic images that we kind of want to freeze frame it and hang on a wall.
