Tiffany Haddish Shaved Her Own Head on Instagram Live

Tiffany Haddish has rocked all kinds of hairstyles since her breakout role in 2017’s Girls Trip, but her newest look is probably her boldest yet. Haddish took to Instagram Live to take fans along for the ride as she shaved her own head, explaining exactly why she took the plunge after talking about doing it for years.
For the past few months in quarantine, the Like a Boss star has been sporting super long hair in braids and locs, but in a series of Instagram posts on Tuesday, July 7th, she took everyone with her as she chopped them off and shaved her head.
Haddish shared the meaning behind the cut—she said she “knows” every part of her body, except for her scalp, which has always been hidden by her hair.
Joined by a couple of friends (who supported her but lovingly joked that she looked like famously bald singer Sinéad O’Connor), Haddish started by cutting off each braid, a process that took about 18 minutes. She was loving her new short ‘do, sharing that she was ready to embrace a chemical- and product-free hair vibe—of course, infusing her signature brand of humor as she combed it out. She first said that she looks like her Auntie Melissa, before trying out a comb-over and joking that she looks like her Uncle Charles.
In the next video, the comedian took issue with fans speculating about her mental health.
“Why when a woman decides, ‘Hey, I’m gonna cut this hair off because I wanna see my scalp,’ she’s gotta have a mental problem? Nothing is wrong with my brain, guys, I’m not suffering from no emotional shit,” she said.
And while she doesn’t need to justify changing her own personal hairstyle, or appearance at all, she did give a little more explanation.
“I wanna see my scalp. I know every single part of my body. I know where every single mole is. Anybody that's ever done my hair has heard me say it...anybody that knows me knows me, knows I've been talking about this for a long time, okay?
She also noted that maintaining longer hair as a Black woman means spending two or three hours a day on styling. Now, she said, “I’m gonna use that same energy that I would’ve been putting into my hair into my mind…It’s just going to give me more time to work on my body, get everything together…I feel really, really good…If anything I’ve gained so much mind. So much peace. And I still look better than you, bitch.” (LOL!)
In a final video, she documented the process of her stylist, Precious Jackson, joining her for the final clip, showing where she’s had damage from past hair styling. She was loving the end result, noting that her shaved head feels “soft” and that she feels “free,” which we love.
“Now people can see my true beauty. I love it!” she said, and we fully agree—it looks incredible.
