Tiffany Haddish called most awards show hosts a “generic dude in a tux” and, you know, she’s not wrong
Tiffany Haddish is set to host the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 18th, 2018, and her presence as a woman of color is a breath of freaking fresh air. Haddish and MTV just unveiled the first promos for her hosting stint and, in them, she accurately takes down the long list of “generic dude in a tux” awards show hosts that came before her. Sorry Seth Meyers, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jimmy Kimmels of the world, but the hosting circuit needs some diverse talent, asap.
“If you want to make it in this business, you’ve got to pay your dues. I’ve slept in my car in Beverly Hills. I even hosted Bar Mitzvahs, Haddish says in the video. “You don’t want another generic dude in a tux hosting a boring-ass awards show. You want the boss who paved her own way!
The Golden Globes got it together for a minute when they had Tina Fey and Amy Schumer host for a couple years. Reba McEntire hosted the ACM Awards this year. The Oscars, well, that seems like a lost cause.
Bless the MTV Movie & TV Awards for recognizing that Haddish was basically born to host awards shows.
You know what would be even better though…Haddish hosting the Oscars. She’s already put it out into the universe.
"At the end of the day, I would love to do something like that, Haddish revealed in March 2018 (via Variety). “That would be a dream come true. I know my father would be extremely proud if I got to do that. As long as I get a paycheck.
Let’s be real, if Haddish becomes the new Neil Patrick Harris of awards shows, we wouldn’t be mad at it. You can watch Haddish’s promo for the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards here.
