This is not a drill: There are going to be THREE “Tetris” movies

Tetris is an incredibly addictive game. If I play too many games in a row, I start having dreams about it. In my sleep, I start trying to fit tiny little blocks together, and I wake up sweating if the blocks start moving too quickly.
Perhaps that’s what happened to the Larry Kasanoff, the filmmaker who is slated to create the upcoming trilogy (yes, trilogy) based on the highly addictive game. Maybe he was stuck in the car or on the subway on a long commute and started to identify with the long green block, or maybe the red L-shaped thingie, and thought of an entire storyline — and now, that storyline can’t even be contained to just one film.
Kasanoff told Empire, “We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science-fiction movie. I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos.”
However it came about, it seems to be happening, and we’re guessing it’ll be something akin to the Lego movie. Maybe it’ll be a technicolor universe with a few other arcade-like games crossing over, so that we get a break from block-like structures, and we aren’t exactly sure what (or who!) the characters are going to be — but we’re actually pretty excited to see what they’re going to come up with.
