Three sci-fi series won People’s Choice Awards, and trust us, you love all of them
Sci-fi and fantasy fans have had much to be thankful for this past year, with older shows like Supernatural still making headlines and new and amazing shows like Luke Cage thrown into the mix. In fact, when we tell you that you’re going to love all the sci-fi/fantasy series that won People’s Choice Awards, we’re not exaggerating. There were three categories for sci-fi/fantasy shows (network TV, cable, and premium), and the nominees for each were all equally worthy. Among the nominees were the futuristic Wild West ride known as Westworld, the never-disappointing but always gory Game of Thrones, and the Tatiana Maslany-fueled clone drama Orphan Black. But…none of these won.
Instead, we got a couple of ringers and one surprise thrown our way. First off, Supernatural won for Favorite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show. Not exactly a long shot. We’ve been big fans of the Winchester Brothers for over a decade (they’re on Season 12!) The popularity of Sam and Dean isn’t dying down anytime soon, though we think Once Upon A Time may have been a close runner up.
Then there was Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, won by none other than The Walking Dead. Everybody loves a good zombie story, and the Walking Dead has proven that time and again. They’re in the midst of their seventh season this year and TWD fandom shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.
And finally, for Favorite Premium Sci-Fi/Fantasy, something of a surprise. The nominees for this category included some pretty big names, including this past summer’s Netflix horror hit Stranger Things and a little show known as Game of Thrones. Either of these could have certainly taken the award, but instead, Outlander came up ahead and stole the show. Yeah, I didn’t see that coming (but you can’t argue with seeing the ever-dreamy Sam Heughan on your screen, can you?)
