Marvel Studios launched a “Thor: Ragnarok” STEM challenge for girls, and we’re so into it, it’s embarrassing
Two of our favorite things are coming together in the BEST way. Marvel Studios has extended an invitation to girls ages 15-18 interested in STEM to apply for a three-day mentorship in New York. Female empowerment and superheroes?! Does it get any better than that? Since getting girls to stay involved with STEM fields has proven to be difficult statistically, every bit of encouragement helps. And this time the encouragement comes from Marvel, Disney, and Thor: Ragnarok, which is doubly awesome.
It’s called the “Thor: Ragnarok Superpower of STEM Challenge,” and it sounds like an amazing opportunity.
"Girls ages 15-18, in grades 10-12, are encouraged to channel their superpower of STEM for a chance to win a trip to the world premiere of Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, an immersive three-day mentorship in New York City with Disney Imagineering, the opportunity to appear on Good Morning America, and more!"
Also awesome: This competition isn’t strictly academic. It’s looking for girls to demonstrate their ingenuity and talent in a STEM field with a DIY project. In order to apply, girls need to:
- Think of a Do-It-Yourself, demonstrable project that could be used for the good of others.
- Make your project.
- Create a 7-minute (or shorter) video in which you demonstrate your project and explain how you used your superpowers of STEM to design and complete it.

Equally exciting: The video has an intro from Cate Blanchett, who plays Hela in Thor: Ragnarok.
