This Plus-Size Woman Walked Hollywood Boulevard in a Bikini for Body Image

The pressure on women to seem perpetually perfect is nothing new, but perhaps nowhere is that pressure felt more than in Hollywood, the land of the flawless. While Los Angeles has its share of impossibly beautiful people, it’s so refreshing to see that not everyone conforms to that impossible ideal – and they don’t even mind it!

Amani Terrell is one such woman, and she’s ready to put her money where her mouth is. While being plus-sized and weighing in at 260 pounds, she decided to hit Hollywood Boulevard in a bikini to speak out against Hollywood’s obsession with stick-thin figures. While she realizes that she needs to lose weight for health reasons, Amani isn’t about to be ostracized for her size, saying, “You can not seek validation from other people. This world is very cruel. You must seek validation within yourself and be kind to yourself.” Amen!

Of course, parading around in a bikini is bound to encourage attention of all kinds, and though many Amani encountered made rude comments, she also had plenty of pleasant interactions with plenty and hopefully helped to open people’s minds as to how many forms the word “beautiful” can take.

It takes courage to put yourself out there in the public eye, and we applaud Amani for doing it. You’re awesome, girl!
