This is why Miley Cyrus says she wouldn’t write “Wrecking Ball” today
When you’re an artist who pens original music, old hits can turn into a time capsule of life events and emotions. That’s one of the reasons why Miley Cyrus wouldn’t have written “Wrecking Ball” today.
You probably remember the song for one reason — Cyrus, naked, on a wrecking ball. While tastefully done, it still made a bunch of headlines — probably because of the intriguing visuals, paired with the fact that while Cyrus had since broken the image, she did get her start on the Disney Channel.
Still, it was a catchy song.
"I’m never living that down," Cyrus said in an interview with The Zach Sang Show this past May. "I will always be the naked girl on a wrecking ball. No matter how much I just frolic with [dog] Emu, I’m always the naked girl on the wrecking ball...I should have thought how long that was going to have to follow me around."
Cyrus clarified the statement a little bit in an interview with NME Magazine, as reported by People. No matter what, even though she may not dig the song as much as her others, she’s grateful for the tune.
"I should be grateful every f—ing day for that song, and I am," she said. "I think people look at things that they’ve done and there is this sense of shame, or ‘I wish I wouldn’t have done that’ — not because I’m naked, by the way. It’s because I feel like I’m in a deeper songwriting place."
So, it should come as no surprise that she doesn’t think “Wrecking Ball” would have been something featured on her latest release, Younger Now, which will officially be in stores tomorrow.

She admitted that she’s not as impressed with the song as she once was. Which, as a musician, shows she’s interested in continuously progressing forward.
"Lyrically, I’m less impressed with that song right now," she said. "I feel like it doesn’t reflect who I am now, but that’s fine because it’s not supposed to. I’m sure I’ll say the same thing about this record at some point."
Unfortunately for Cyrus, we think the song and video will be on people’s minds for quite some time — since for weeks, it was all we could talk about.
