Because the more the merrier, This Is Us will feature *another* brand new timeline for Season 3
Another season, another timeline. For the past two seasons, This Is Us has already showcased touching flashbacks, an even more emotional present, a bittersweet glimpse of what could have been, and a flashforward to an ominous future. But in the next installment, the show will take us way, way back to a time where the Big Three isn’t part of the equation; a time where Jack hasn’t crossed paths with Rebecca just yet.
Speaking to People, Milo Ventimiglia assured everyone that even though we already know everything there is to know about Jack Pearson’s death, we won’t be seeing the last of him. This Is Us will soon be exploring a part of his character we all have yet to see.
"We’re definitely going to see Jack in the Vietnam era," he said, referring to Jack's military past. "At the end of the Super Bowl episode when people were ultimately confronted with how he passed away, there was a trailer to show Jack in a helicopter over Vietnam in uniform. We’re going to explore that side of Jack’s 20s and what brought him into the man that we all knew."
It would definitely be interesting to see what America’s favorite TV dad was like when he wasn’t a father to Kevin, Kate, and Randall and a husband to Bec. We’re also curious to know more about his relationship with his late brother, Nicky, because it was always implied how his death brought about a profound impact on Jack.
Were they close? How did Nicky die? Did his relationship with his brother ultimately affect his relationship with Kevin and Randall? Was Jack really just a mechanic or a soldier?
We could always start speculating, but knowing the This Is Us writers, it will be hard to predict what’s going to happen next. One thing’s for sure though, we all have to stock up on tissues once again.
This Is Us Season 3 premieres this fall on NBC.
