Take a deep breath, everyone: “This Is Us” confirms that Beth Pearson LIVES
Everyone can rest assured now, because Beth Pearson isn’t going anywhere.
Last week, an emotionally crippling rumor that Beth might die on This Is Us made rounds on the internet and sent fans into a frenzy. And now, it is with great pleasure that we inform you that there is no truth to that gossip, and Beth will NOT be pulling a Jack Pearson. A tragic death is not in the cards for our dear Beth, and THANK GOODNESS.
Just as we were planning our “Save Beth Pearson” petition for the This Is Us writers, executive producer and co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker made it clear that the beloved character will live to see another day.
"I just heard about it this morning. I don't know where that came from," he told Glamour. "It's nothing we've talked about in our writers room, so unless there's some fan fiction making its way to set and getting filmed, I don't think that's in the works for Beth! You can tell your readers that Beth's OK."
Phew! We honestly wouldn’t know what we would do if we were to lose Beth, so we’re happy that the team behind This Is Us is nice enough to spare us from going into a panic spiral. The TVLine blind item suggesting that a popular drama that’s been on the air for less than three seasons is exploring a season-ending plot that would have “a pivotal character being diagnosed with terminal cancer” might not be about Beth after all, as Refinery29 theorized (while pointing to other big clues, too). Let’s just hope the rest of the Pearsons are okay!
Another piece of good news? Aptaker says that the next set of episodes will involve less crying and induce more smiling and happy dancing:
"It was important to us to come back with something a bit lighter to show that we also love showing our group of characters really enjoying each other," he said, noting that Kate and Toby's wedding is *just* around the corner.
Glad to know we’ll be saving on the cost of tissues — at least for the time being.
This Is Us returns on February 27th at 9 p.m. on NBC.
