This designer built a secret studio beneath a bridge, and it’s the coolest workspace ever
As unconventional workspaces go, this designer’s secret under-bridge studio easily wins the award for the most unusual office ever.
As Bored Panda reports, self-taught furniture designer Fernando Abellanas — known professionally as Lebrel — owns a studio that literally dangles from the bottom of an overpass in Valencia, Spain. Although this definitely isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when we think of ways to create a calming workspace, it’s honestly the coolest.
The former plumber’s tiny, bridge-adjacent space contains almost all the comforts of home.
It’s equipped with a chair, a desk, two shelves lined with personal mementos, and plenty of storage space, especially for such tight quarters.
Abellanos’ workspace is so impressive that it’s easy to overlook the fact that it doesn’t have all the fixings of a traditional office, like doors and windows. The studio can, however, be completely concealed from sight.
A hand crank bolted to the bridge also shifts the base towards the furniture, allowing Abellanos access to his uniquely situated studio, which he compares to the space beneath a table, DesignBoom reports.
And it looks even cozier at night.
Perhaps one of the more intriguing details about Abellanos’ creation is the fact that he’s opted to keep its location to himself, despite the huge amount of attention the project has attracted.
“The project is an ephemeral intervention,” he told The Spaces of his hidden office. “[It will remain] until someone finds it and decides to steal the materials, or the authorities remove it.”
