This affordable avocado face mask is easy to make AND will do wonders for your skin
Even though it’s fast becoming cliché, I’ll admit to being a true avocado fiend. I’m a California girl, I can’t help it! No matter that I now live amidst a frozen hellscape for half of the year, it’s still imperative that I stuff my face with avocados whenever possible. Let me clarify: stuff my face and also put it on my face. Avocado face masks are SO good for your skin and it couldn’t be easier to make at home. They’re one of the best ways to pamper your face and take some time for yourself on the cheap. What better way to deposit all these amazing vitamins and oils into your skin than by going straight to the source? There are tons of different DIY avocado mask recipes out there, and it can be as simple as just smashing avocado on your face!
For the sake of a slightly more impressive article, I’ll be adding a few goodies to my avocado mask for an extra touch of goodness!
Hello, world! Here I am, fresh faced and ready to apply food products onto my skin early in the morning!
You will need the following ingredients:
1/2 avocado
1/2 banana
1 egg white
Step 1: Mash and mix all the ingredients together to create your delicious face mask. Please don’t eat it, as the egg white will give you salmonella and kill you. (Unless you are me, as I apparently have an iron stomach, which I discovered after accidentally eating an entire piece of raw chicken. As a fully grown adult. But that story is for another day!)
Step 2: Using either a brush (if you are fancy) or your hands (if you’re an animal like me), spread the mixture all over your face. Try your best to avoid your eyes and mouth. Make sure you apply a relatively thin layer. You don’t want it to be overly gloopy — you don’t want to end up like Mrs. Doubtfire!
Okay, there might be no way to avoid the gloop with this one…
In truth, I probably should have mashed it more vigorously so it’s less chunky. Please learn from my follies.
Step 3: Now all you have to do is sit back and relax for 10-15 minutes! Let all that goodness just soak into your skin. The best part about this mask? You can eat your leftovers!
Not the contents in the bowl.
Avocado masks are great for your skin for all the same reasons that eating them are good for you! You’re loading your skin up with Potassium, Vitamin A, E, B, and Calcium. Not to mention, all those powerful antioxidants are helping restore elasticity and firm up your skin. What a wonder!
Step 4: After a few minutes, just simply rinse it off with warm water — you can use the aid of a soft washcloth if you think you might need it. And voila!
My skin feels extra smooth, tight, and looks visibly brighter than it was before! It’s so worth the minimal effort and expense. And, hello! You’ve got half an avocado and a banana left. Breakfast time! Have you ever tried to use the food in your fridge as a face mask? Oh, the things we’ll try for beauty!
