This 24-hour hotline wants to fight sexual harassment on public transit
For anybody who regularly rides public transit, sexual harassment from strangers on the bus or train is often an unfortunate, unjust – and dangerous – fact of life.
To combat sexual harassment and help its residents feel safer, the city of Los Angeles is launching a 24/7 hotline for victims of harassment on public transit.
Riders who feel unsafe or uncomfortable, or want to report an incident to police, can call 1-844-Off-Limits (633-5464). Counselors with the LA-based organization Peace Over Violence.
The counselor can stay on the phone with them or give them resources for how to contact the police.
“This 24/7 hotline is part of Metro’s commitment to keeping the system a safe space for all passengers, Metro Board chairman John Fasana said in a statement. “Launching the round the clock sexual harassment hotline shows that Metro cares about our riders' experiences and that we’re committed to their safety.
