These high schools have nap pods for tired students — where was this when we were teens?!
Several New Mexico high schools have brought in fleets of nap pods to help their students catch a little more shut-eye throughout the day.
The pods first arrived at the schools in 2008 as a response to a National Institute of Health study, which reports that only a third of high school-aged teens are getting eight hours of sleep each night, even though teens need between nine and 10 hours.
The school reports the pods, by MetroNaps, have produced positive results with their students.
"It really was beneficial, educationally, to put them in the pod for 20 minutes and send them back to class, rather than have them miss half a day," School nurse Sandy Peugh told the Sante Fe New Mexican. "And it wasn't just kids who had sleep issues. It worked on kids who had anxiety — extremely gifted kids who might have test anxiety. Teachers came in, stressed out, and we'd put them in the pod."
We could have definitely used something like this when we were in school!
