There’s going to be a live-action Neko Atsume movie, and we’re already dying of cuteness overload
Are you still playing Neko Atsume? Good — in that case, we’re not alone. The website Kotaku just announced that Japan is planning on making a Neko Atsume live-action movie, and we really can’t even imagine the level of cuteness we’re going to encounter if it hits other countries. (And, well — it better. We need this.)
As a brief refresher, if you haven’t heard of the game before, Neko Atsume is a cat collecting app you can download on your phone. There’s not a huge purpose to the game (except “collect them all,” and “buy cool new things for them”) but the app is generally relaxing, and definitely a breath of fresh air after a particularly tough day.
Seriously.
How cute are those kittens? Answer: Very.
The live-action film is set to be produced by the company MediAnd, and directed by Masatoshi Kurakata. Kurakata has directed three films in the past, but has been working in film since the mid ’90s. Kotaku reports that the plot will focus around a writer who finds a stray cat outside, decides to feed it (probably Ritzy Bitz) and attracts a heck of a lot more. Sound familiar?
It’s unclear if we’ll get cameos by Joe DiMeowgio and Sassy Fran. Tubbs might show up, if Kurakata has a decent selection at the craft service table. We’re already losing sleep over who’ll get cast as the elusive Peaches.
We seriously can’t wait to learn even more about this film. For now, we’re just so excited that it’s happening.
