This theory of who Rey’s parents actually are is the most convincing yet

Rey’s lineage was easily one of the biggest questions in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Since the movie premiered, tons of people have had all sorts of theories about where Rey gets her Jedi powers.

*Warning: Like all theories, this may or may not contain spoilers for the upcoming film.*

The brilliant minds at Digital Spy believe that Rey could be part of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s family. After the fall of the republic, Obi-Wan had some “lost years,” during which he could have found some time to start a family. To be fair, this is certainly not a completely ~new~ theory. But there are definitely some new arguments in here we are totally listening to.

Because of the age difference, it’s unlikely she’s the Jedi master’s actual daughter. But it’s totally possible she’s somewhere in the family tree.

The only real insight we get into Rey’s past is when she has her vivid vision as a girl being torn from her family. When that happens, The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams, was careful to include the voices of Yoda, Ewan McGregor (aka young Obi-Wan Kenobi), and a bit of Alec Guinness (aka original Obi-Wan Kenobi).

It seems pretty conspicuous that Luke and the entire Skywalker family are missing from that moment.

2She got moves like Obi-Wan.

The way she slinks into the Starkiller Base was pretty reminiscent of how Obi-Wan Kenobi quietly sneaks into the Death Star. Coincidence? Only time will tell.

3Her style is very “Kenobi-esque.”

Rey’s (now iconic) robes makes her seem to have a style all of her own.

Until, of course, you look at Obi-Wan’s outfits and realize there are some similarities you can’t ignore between the two looks.

4It’d open up the possibility for some awesome Obi-Wan spinoff movies.

Though it may not be evidence from the Star Wars movies themselves, the idea of Obi-Wan having a fascinating family and backstory would open up a world of possibilities for future solo movies. And it’s worth noting that Ewan McGregor is totally open to doing morefilms.

So if we do find out Rey is, say, Obi-Wan’s granddaughter, there’s all sorts of exciting new questions we can see answered in the future.
