This is the official theme of International Women’s Day 2018
Now that March is here, International Women’s Day (March 8th) is around the corner. We celebrate ourselves and the women in our lives, and that’s reason enough for a holiday, right? But in case you didn’t know, every year, the holiday has a theme that continues through the year. So what’s the theme of International Women’s Day 2018? The focus is on making all the progress that has already been set into motion go even further.
According to the Women’s Day website, this year’s theme is #PressForProgress. Since the start of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, we’re finally beginning to see some long-needed progress in the fight against sexual harassment and assault. The people behind IWD are aiming to keep that momentum going, especially now that it seems more people are interested in standing up for women’s rights than ever before.
"Now, more than ever, there's a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity," the site's page about this year's theme says. "A strong call to #PressForProgress. A strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive."
If you’re interested in getting involved in International Women’s Day, there are a few ways you can do it, and the easiest can be done right from your phone.
Absolutely @CatalystInc Yes, we're excited to see so many men acknowledging their role in creating gender equal futures. Women, men, non-binary – all of us can #PressForProgress https://t.co/7MViEpGAQd https://t.co/ckmRAfwyTy

The organization is looking for women to send them #PressForProgress photos that show how they’re supporting this year’s theme and making things happen. They’re also asking for people to take a pledge for progress and share how they plan to take action over the next year in working toward gender equality. It could be as simple as committing to make changes in your everyday life, from encouraging others to use language that is supportive of women to fighting back against stereotypes when you see them.
If change is going to happen, we all need to work on it, which is why this year’s mission is so important. Keep on pressing, y’all — one day, the world will finally realize how powerful women are.
