The wildest thing is happening during the ‘Mad Men’ finale

I’m still in denial that Mad Men is almost over, but the truth of the matter is, it is. In less than a week’s time creator Matthew Weiner’s twisted 1960’s world will come to an end, and with it so will the stories of Don, Peggy, Pete, Betty, Joan, Roger, and so many more. Honestly, it’s hard to say goodbye.

We as yet have no earthly idea how the series will end, but we do know one thing: It’s going to be big. So big, in fact, that AMC’s sister networks are planning to black out programming for an hour on Sunday, starting at 10 p.m. ET. So don’t make plans with BBC America, IFC, Sundance or WE; they’ll be busy honoring the end of an era with a salute of silence.

We’ve been with the folks of Mad Men through thick and thin. Laughter and tears. Marriage and divorce. Blown pitches and lawnmower incidents. But alas, it’s all coming to an end on Sunday night. One more episode, one final goodbye, one last hurrah with our friends at Sterling Cooper.

AMC President Charlie Collier says the network is, “enormously appreciative of our sister networks who are paying tribute to this remarkable program that has had such an impact on our entire company.” And we kind of love that they’re going dark. It really is an honorable salute; the perfect send off.

Until then, get your Mad Men fix with the marathon of every episode, starting tonight at 6 p.m. on AMC!
