People think The Weeknd sings about almost giving Selena Gomez his kidney in his new EP
On Friday, March 30th, The Weeknd dropped a new EP called My Dear Melancholy – and yes, it’s everything we hoped for from the Canadian rapper, and more. His new music comes just months after his high-profile split from Selena Gomez, and many believe the album was strongly inspired by the breakup.
After deciphering the lyrics, fans have come to the conclusion that the track “Call Out My Name” is most likely about Gomez. In fact, the song might even imply that The Weeknd was willing to give Gomez his kidney (the singer famously underwent a life-saving kidney transplant last summer).
"I said I didn’t feel nothing baby, but I lied/I almost cut a piece of myself for your life," he croons.
Gomez ultimately received a kidney transplant from friend Francia Raísa, but it’s definitely possible that The Weeknd (known off-stage as Abel Tesfaye) was a candidate for donation while they were still together.
Whether the track is actually about Gomez remains unconfirmed, but with lyrics like, “We found each other/I helped you out of a broken place/You gave me comfort/But falling for you was my mistake,” it sure sounds like it might be.
Aside from the the potential reference to Gomez’s kidney transplant, some are also speculating that the song may allude to her relationship with on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber. You might recall that Gomez was spotted with Bieber just days after her split from The Weeknd.
"Guess I was just another pit stop/Til’ you made up your mind/You just wasted my time," he sings.

Of course, we can always count on Twitter to have the best reactions.
Even when you’re a famous artist with an amazing new album, breakups are hard. We hope Gomez and The Weeknd both find the love they deserve – even if it isn’t with each other.
