The Weeknd got a new haircut, and whoa, he looks completely “differnt”

Um…new Weeknd, who this? On September 9th, the “The Hills” singer walked the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival sporting a fresh new ‘do. Rather than wearing his signature updo or, as he has more recently, his cropped-with-volume-on-top look, The Weeknd let his hair down and shaved his iconic close-cut beard into a scruffy ‘stache. As one person joked on @TheShadeRoom’s post of the singer’s new look, The Weeknd is looking more like Monday.
The artist debuted his new lewk at the TIFF premiere of his upcoming film, Uncut Gems. Fans and followers haven’t seen nor heard much from him since he deactivated his social media accounts earlier this summer, so, needless to say, the haircut made waves.
But we’re kind of into it. Sure, he kind of looks like a mashup between Lionel Ritchie and Bruno Mars. But we definitely don’t hate it.
And we’re not the only ones who are down with this refined version of The Weeknd. Many are saying that this new appearance is clearly his alter ego, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (which is his given name, fyi).
Listen, he may be pulling a Childish Gambino/Donald Glover-like rebrand. And that’s totally okay.

Whether or not the masses like the look, they certainly know how to turn it into a joke.

Love it or hate it, we have to give kudos to Abel for trying something new. Perhaps he’ll end up spearheading the return of the ’80s mustache. Let’s hope not, but one never knows.
