How ‘The Simpsons’ basically predicted ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

Two of my very favorite things are The Simpsons and Star Wars and they’ve definitely linked up before—but something magical happened this weekend. We found out that the Simpsons writers are fortune-tellers. Besides off-hand jokes about “President Trump” long before his campaign began, they also predicted in a 2009 episode that a new Star Wars movie would be up against an Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel. Basically, this past weekend’s box office in a, well, nutshell.

2009 was long after the *cough* not great*cough* Star Wars prequels, so even THINKING about a new Star Wars wasn’t on our radar then.

Like all good things, this image was found on imgur and quickly passed around. Of course, The Simpsons didn’t assume we’d be on our FOURTH Chipmunks installment when a new Star Wars came out but still just those two movies existing side by side is incredible.

If only they’d also predicted a Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy as well…
