‘The Mummy’ is getting the reboot treatment! Here’s everything we know so far.

It’s totally possible Tom Cruise is coming to the big screen to help save the day (and resurrect the living dead): Both EW and Variety have confirmed that the actor is in talks to have a starring role in upcoming monster movie remake, The Mummy.

This project is part of Universal’s effort to reboot its classic monster movie library, recreating a cinematic universe in which famed creatures such as Frankenstein’s monster, the Wolfman, Dracula, and of course, the Mummy, come back to life on the big screen. Again.

Variety reports that Universal’s current plan is to have each character appear in their own solo film and then eventually team up in an ensemble film to strike terror everywhere, sort of like Marvel’s the Avengers but in a much more terrifying way.

Even though everything is still under wraps (couldn’t resist, sorry!), what we DO know is that the film will be set in present-day and could possibly feature a female mummy (yasssss!).  According to Screenrant, the film already has a release date, set to open in U.S. theaters on March 24th, 2017, followed by an as-yet-untitled monster movie on March 20th, 2018.

Hopefully Brendan Fraser is down to make a cameo!
