OMG the new trailer for “The Mummy” reveals some really creepy backstory about the villain
The newest trailer for The Mummy reboot has Tom Cruise running from undead creatures, explosions and lots of filthy rats. But scariest of all is the new and first-ever female Mummy who is hellbent on using Cruise to destroy the world. She made her debut in cool teasers and even more awesome trailers. However,it’s only now that we learn about her terrible past, and horrifying plans for the modern world.
Princess Ahmanet, played by Sofia Boutella, was set to be Egypt’s next queen. This was taken away from her somehow and soon her thirst for power turned her evil.
In the trailer, we see Ahmanet buried alive in a sarcophagus after killing the pharaoh in his sleep.
That alone is a recipe for being one angry Mummy when she wakes up.
Cruise plays Nick Morton, who unwittingly discovers Ahmanet’s tomb. He quickly realizes it is really a prison.
He then mysteriously survives a plane crash brought on by the Mummy, indicating there may be a connection between him and her.
Morton teams up with Dr. Jekyll, played by Russel Crowe, to understand this connection, and ultimately stop Ahmanet from destroying the world.
For loyalists of the ‘90s Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, this film looks promising with its special effects and creepy crawly moments (those icky rats, no thanks).
Then of course that one thing where the Mummy becomes a huge, scary cloud Mummy.
The Mummy reboot is the first of Universal’s new Monsters Universe (think Marvel but instead of superheroes, we have monsters like Dracula or Frankenstein’s monster.)
The remainder of the Monster Universe has yet to be revealed, but The Mummy could set up characters for future films. Dr. Jekyll is already in this one, for example.
Other Monster Universe potentials include Javier Bardem in a future Frankenstein film and Johnny Depp in the The Invisible Man.
