‘The Mindy Project’ is officially coming to Hulu! We can all breathe again.
The Mindy Project has officially been picked up by Hulu — and we are all breathing a collective sigh of relief while simultaneously freaking out with excitement. The online streaming giant announced earlier today that it has ordered 26 new episodes of the former Fox comedy series, with the option to order more after the show’s season premiere. As of now, a release date has not been announced, nor has a delivery method (aka whether the episodes will be released all at once, or on a weekly basis). It’s also unclear as to whether all the episodes will air as one, longer fourth season, or as two 13-episode seasons (which Vulture suggests might be the case). But, to be honest, we don’t really care — because no matter what, we’re getting more Mindy.
“I am thrilled ‘The Mindy Project’ has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show,” series’ mastermind and star Mindy Kaling said in a statement. “It’s such an exciting place to be.”
For those who are less familiar, The Mindy Project follows the trials and tribulations of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, an OB/GYN who is hilarious both for her whip-smart honesty and her relatable follies (personal and professional). The series also stars Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Ike Barinholtz, Xosha Roquemore, and Beth Grant — and it’s all kinds of amazing. If you haven’t yet seen it, now’s the time to catch up before the fourth season airs.
As of now, Mindy reruns are already housed on Hulu, so the site’s decision to pick up the show felt like the obvious choice. It’s no secret that online streaming services are the new frontier when it comes to great television (hello, Transparent and Orange is the New Black, just to name two), but it’s also quickly become a place for beloved shows to find a second life (like Arrested Development on Netflix, or Community on Yahoo).
“Mindy has been a beloved member of the Hulu family, so this deal is a natural extension of our relationship,” Craig Erwich, senior vice president and head of content for Hulu, said in a statement. “With so many of her fans already catching up and tuning in to the series on Hulu, we know her millions of fans will be eager to find out what Mindy has in store for the next chapter.”
We can’t wait to see what’s to come. Check out the site’s announcement video below!
