This groundbreaking LGBTQ show is officially coming back to television, and we’re psyched
The L Word is officially returning to TV. The groundbreaking LGBTQ series is set to return to Showtime nearly 10 years after its finale. Better yet, the reboot—which was first announced as “in the works” in July 2017—will be executive produced by the original series creator, Ilene Chaiken. Chaiken took to Twitter on January 31st to confirm the news, writing, “It’s real. So excited!”

The L Word followed a group of close-knit friends—who also happened to be lesbians—living in West Hollywood as they dealt with the trials and tribulations of life and love. The series starred Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, Leisha Hailey, Pam Grier, and other fan favorites. The L Word, hailed as a series that paved the way for other LGBTQ stories, earned a series of GLAAD awards during its groundbreaking run from 2004 to 2009.
As if the reboot isn’t awesome enough news in and of itself, Beals, Moennig, and Hailey are set to return in their original roles as the iconic Bette, Shane, and Alice—and will also serve as executive producers. The trio took to Twitter to celebrate the news.
