The iconic boss babe movie “Working Girl” is getting the musical treatment from a “New Girl” writer
Now this is a reboot we can get excited about! According to Variety, everyone’s favorite ’80s ~girl power~ flick Working Girl is getting the musical treatment. The movie will be adapted for the stage, and it features some serious star power behind the scenes already. When can we order tickets?
The musical doesn’t have a scheduled release yet (boo!), but the information we have is enough to get us extremely excited. The Working Girl songs will be written by ’80s icon Cyndi Lauper, who is the perfect choice for getting the style and tone just right.
But she’s not the only one with some serious clout sitting down to make Working Girl come to life. The play will be adapted from the 1988 hit film by writer Kim Rosenstock.
If that name isn’t familiar to you, it should be: She’s one of the writers for New Girl.
20th Century Fox is on a musical kick as of late, turning many of its hit films into stage adaptations. Besides Working Girl. we’ll also be getting musical versions of Mrs. Doubtfire and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
With the play still in it earliest stages, there’s no word on who might be starring in it or when we can expect to see it. 20th Century Fox hopes for the play to end up on Broadway; considering the film itself is set in New York, we can’t think of a better place for it.
