The gross reason you should say probably goodbye to your shower poof

If you enjoy taking long, leisurely showers, it’s possible you find the whole process very relaxing. After all, who doesn’t like to pamper themselves? Sadly, if part of your pampering routine tends to involve using a shower poof, you might be doing more harm than good when it comes to your skin. Yeah, the science is in, and it appears that using a shower poof to scrub your body might not actually be doing you any favors. According to The Sun, these shower poofs are basically breeding grounds for bacteria to grow and multiply over night.

How come? All of that dirt, germs, and dead skin that gets caught in your shower poof when you shower can easily get caught inside of it and then… grow and multiply times infinity. Gross, right? According to The Sun, if you use a shower puff on freshly shaved skin, it can be even scarier because the germs and bacteria can get in the tiny nicks and cuts that are common with shaving. Ew.

So, what do you do if you really love using your shower poof? You should be replacing it every three to four weeks, and make sure you thoroughly wash and dry it after each use. And no, drying doesn’t count if you just let it hang in your moist shower. You should move it to a dry place where it can dry properly and not grow even more bacteria. Scrub a dub dub, everybody!
