The founder of Paintbox gives us the inside scoop on the top nail trends for 2017 — and the one trend that’s out
Paintbox is not your typical nail salon. For one, just walk through the door and you can feel your “cool girl” factor shoot through the roof. The gorgeous space furnished with pops of “millennial pink” feels like part art gallery, part designer boutique. It’s the salon of choice for New York’s fashion set and the go-to spot for traffic-stopping nail art.
So naturally, Paintbox’s founder and CEO, Eleanor Langston, has her well-manicured thumb on the pulse of nail trends. HelloGiggles caught up with Eleanor, a former beauty editor herself, to get the inside scoop on the top six trends we can except to crop up for 2017, and the one trend that’s out.
1Graphic, minimalist designs
“Our clients continue to love our angular, sculptural designs that are super modern, crisp, and fresh year-round.”
2Negative space
“A peekaboo effect whether on the side, base, or anywhere on the nail is a sexy touch to your fingertips; it’s like the cutout dress of manicures, and is sophisticated and perfect for camouflaging grow-out. I currently have our Sheer Drama design on my nails (an exaggerated French) in vampy black.”
3Bold, saturated colors
“My current color combinations are vivid shades like cherry red, cobalt, camel, or emerald. They’re statement-making solo but look even more modern paired in a design with pastel, milky tones of pink, peach, beige, or taupe.”
4Full-on chrome
“Nothing’s sexier or more head-turning that a full-foil manicure in silver, gold, brass, rose gold, copper, or pewter. It’s one of our most popular designs!”
5Pastels year-round
“I truly believe that lighter, feminine shades are now classics and fully evergreen/seasonless, so I love peaches, pale pinks, mint greens, baby blues, and even butter yellows. Want to give them some edge? A matte topcoat makes them a little sassier.”
6Luxe-looking studs
“A tiny gold stud across your nails can turn your hands into accessories; super stylish and expensive looking”
And the number one trend on the way out?
“I’m a huge fan of an almond or round nail shape, so I would say that square is out. Though I’m a closet fan of coffin nails and would love to eventually have those.”
