The Craft is officially getting a remake, and here are all the witchy details
The Craft, which debuted in 1996, showed the world the true power of teenage girls. The movie also made us seriously want to join a coven of our own, and to this day, it inspires many a lewk. And now, the cult classic is getting a remake—with a female writer-director at the helm.
Deadline reports that Zoe Lister-Jones will write and direct the upcoming remake, which is being funded by Blumhouse and Columbia Pictures. The original film’s producer, Lucy Fisher, will also be working on the remake through her production company Red Wagon Entertainment. The movie’s original director and cowriter, Andrew Fleming, will be executive-producing, along with Red Wagon’s Lucas Wiesendanger.
Lister-Jones currently stars in the CBS comedy Life in Pieces, and one of her previous films, Band Aid, was screened at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. In a March 26th Instagram post, she shared a screenshot of the Deadline article, writing “Dreams. Coming. True.” She accompanied her caption with a witch emoji (as you do).
So far, we still don’t know who will be playing the four budding witches, or how closely the plot of the remake will follow the original. It’s also not clear if any of the original actresses—Rachel True, Fairuza Balk, Robin Tunney, and Neve Campbell—would be up for making cameo appearances.
We’ll be biding our time practicing “light as a feather, stiff as a board” while we wait for more information.
